SST 5136-DNP-CPCI 3U CompactPCI DeviceNet Interface Card

The SST 5136-DNP-CPCI is a 3U CompactPCI industrial network interface card designed to connect CompactPCI-based computers and control systems to DeviceNet and CAN-based industrial networks. Originally developed by SST/Woodhead, the card provides onboard processing of DeviceNet communications, allowing the host computer to exchange real-time data with industrial controllers, sensors, actuators and other DeviceNet devices.

The 5136-DNP-CPCI supports DeviceNet Master and Slave operation and standard DeviceNet communication rates of 125, 250 and 500 Kbaud. Its optically isolated CAN interface provides electrical isolation between the CompactPCI host system and the industrial field network.

DeviceNet Master and Slave Communication

The SST 5136-DNP-CPCI implements DeviceNet communications using onboard processing rather than relying entirely on the host CPU. The interface supports simultaneous DeviceNet Master and Slave functionality and can be used for industrial I/O scanning, device communication and control applications.

Supported DeviceNet communication mechanisms include polled, strobed, cyclic, Change-of-State (COS) and explicit messaging. The interface also supports UCMM and dynamic explicit connections.

CompactPCI Interface

The 5136-DNP-CPCI uses a 32-bit, 33 MHz CompactPCI host interface compliant with PCI Specification 2.1 and CompactPCI Specification 2.0 R2.1. Its standard 3U CompactPCI architecture allows installation in compatible industrial CompactPCI computers and control chassis.

CAN and DeviceNet Interface

The card provides an optically isolated CAN interface with 500 V isolation and a standard 5-pin DeviceNet-compatible network connector. Standard DeviceNet communication rates of 125, 250 and 500 Kbaud are supported, while the CAN hardware can operate at data rates up to 1 Mbaud.

Onboard Processing

An onboard 40 MHz AM186EM microprocessor handles communication processing independently of the CompactPCI host processor. The board also incorporates shared memory and Flash memory for interface operation and downloadable communication software modules.

Software Support

The 5136-DNP-CPCI was originally supported with network diagnostic and configuration software, an OPC data server and Windows DLL development libraries. Legacy operating-system support included Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows NT4. Compatibility with a customer's current operating system and application software should be verified before installation.

Industrial Applications

The SST 5136-DNP-CPCI is suitable for industrial automation, process control, manufacturing systems, machine control, factory automation, HMI systems, industrial data acquisition and other legacy CompactPCI installations requiring DeviceNet connectivity.

Replacement Considerations

When replacing an SST 5136-DNP-CPCI, verify the complete model number, CompactPCI chassis compatibility, DeviceNet configuration, application software, drivers and operating system. Legacy DeviceNet systems may depend on specific SST software modules and drivers, making software compatibility an important consideration when replacing the original interface card.

Replacement, Repair and Availability

Embedded CPU Boards supports the SST 5136-DNP-CPCI for sourcing, replacement, repair and legacy-system lifecycle support. Availability may include new-old-stock, surplus, refurbished or professionally tested units depending on current inventory.
