The Diamond Systems ATHM500-256N is an Athena II embedded single-board computer featuring a 500MHz VIA Mark CoreFusion processor, 256MB of soldered system memory and PC/104 ISA expansion.

The ATHM500-256N is the non-data-acquisition version of the 500MHz Athena II. It integrates processor, memory, VGA and LVDS graphics, 10/100 Ethernet, USB, serial communications, IDE storage and PC/104 expansion in a compact, rugged embedded computing platform.

500MHz VIA Mark CoreFusion Processor

The ATHM500-256N is specifically configured with a VIA Mark CoreFusion processor operating at 500MHz. The processor platform provides Pentium III-class embedded computing performance with low power consumption for rugged industrial applications.

256MB Soldered DRAM

The board includes 256MB of soldered system memory operating on a 100MHz memory bus. Soldered memory eliminates a removable memory socket and provides improved resistance to shock and vibration in embedded applications.

Non-Data-Acquisition Configuration

The ATHM500-256N does not include the onboard data-acquisition circuitry provided on the ATHM500-256A.

This distinction is important when sourcing an exact replacement. Applications requiring integrated analog input, analog output, digital I/O and counter/timer data-acquisition functions should use the ATHM500-256A configuration rather than the ATHM500-256N.

VGA and LVDS Display Support

IDE and Flash Storage

The ATHM500-256N provides an IDE interface supporting UDMA-33 storage devices. A 44-pin notebook-style connector supports compatible hard drives and solid-state FlashDisk storage.

PC/104 Expansion

The Athena II provides a PC/104 ISA expansion interface for compatible industrial I/O and expansion modules.

The board uses the PC/104 mounting method and interface specification while employing Diamond Systems' custom small-form-factor PCB measuring approximately 106 x 114mm.

Both models use the same 500MHz VIA Mark processor and 256MB system memory. The primary difference is the onboard data-acquisition subsystem.
