The DFI G486VPC Rev. D is a legacy Baby-AT 486-class motherboard designed for DOS, Windows and industrial computer systems requiring Socket 3 processor support together with PCI and ISA expansion.
The G486VPC platform supports multiple generations of Intel, AMD, Cyrix and compatible 486-class processors. Its combination of legacy ISA expansion, PCI connectivity, IDE storage and integrated serial and parallel I/O makes it particularly useful for maintaining older industrial machines and control systems whose software or peripheral hardware cannot easily be migrated to a modern computing platform.
The DFI G486VPC platform uses a 237-pin Socket 3 ZIF processor socket and was designed to support a broad range of 486-class processors. Depending on board revision and jumper configuration, the G486VPC family supports processors from Intel, AMD, Cyrix and other compatible manufacturers.
When servicing a Rev. D board, the existing CPU type and jumper configuration should be recorded before changing the processor because voltage, clock and processor-selection settings can vary between CPU families.
The G486VPC provides both PCI and ISA expansion capability, allowing the motherboard to operate with legacy ISA control, communications, data acquisition and machine-interface cards while also supporting compatible PCI peripherals.
This combination is especially important in legacy industrial equipment where specialized ISA cards may be essential to the operation of the machine.
The G486VPC platform provides IDE storage interfaces, floppy-drive support, two serial interfaces, an ECP/EPP parallel interface and PS/2 mouse connectivity. These interfaces allow the board to support the peripheral architecture commonly found in 486-generation industrial computers.
The DFI G486VPC Rev. D may be found in legacy industrial automation, CNC equipment, machine control, manufacturing systems, test equipment, data acquisition platforms and other systems that depend on 486-class hardware, ISA expansion or legacy application software.
When replacing a DFI G486VPC Rev. D, verify the complete motherboard model and PCB revision printed on the original board. Processor type, cache configuration, SIMM memory, BIOS version, jumper settings, ISA/PCI cards and OEM-specific firmware should also be documented before replacement.
The G486VPC was produced in multiple revisions and OEM configurations. A G486VPC from another revision should therefore not automatically be considered a drop-in replacement for a Rev. D board without verifying hardware, BIOS and system compatibility.
Embedded CPU Boards supports the DFI G486VPC Rev. D for sourcing, replacement, repair, testing and legacy-system lifecycle support. Availability may include new-old-stock, surplus, refurbished or professionally tested units depending on current inventory.
